Starting Over

I've moved over from "The Serendipitous Life" seeking a new focus for my writing. I started that blog with the best intentions but somewhere along the way I felt constrained by the broadness of the blog. Writing: A Life allows me structure but also the freedom to wander.

Here's a bit about me:

I'm a 43 year old aspiring writer with a full household- three children, a husband, my mother, one dog, one gerbil, and a hamster. A year ago, I returned to school to complete by B.A. in English(Creative Writing Major) with a minor in Journalism from SUNY New Paltz. On top of all this, I live in a house desperately in need of repair and decorating (and shhh!- a husband who refuses to admit he's no good at home repair). Oh, and before I forget, I barely have enough time to go to the bathroom these days, let alone spend time writing.

I love being back at school. Where I live, intellectual stimulation generally means comparing prices between WalMart and Target. But I've come to realize I can not handle school full-time with a full-time, 7 day a week, 24 hour a day family. Also, deciding to pursue a double major (English and History) and minor (Journalism)is just kind of insane. This means I do lots of writing- academic papers but very little creative writing. So I'm cutting back, dropping two courses, and planning on getting more sleep and more writing.

I lost track of why I returned to school. I came to write, to learn about writing, writers, discovering my writing process. So join me here as I write a life.
